I first met Mitch Hedberg when I tuned to Comedy Central one day - and his special was showing.
I was overwhelmed by the man, by the liners technique, his wit, the confident delivery of the punch - that doesn’t wait for the crowd to acknowledge it, he knows it is smart and hilarious and you’ll get it soon (if you have minimal cells in your brain).
The sad story is that Mitch passed away in March, 2005 at the age of 37 from over using drugs. too bad he’s a great lose. a true icon.
I think Mitch could have been a wizard planner - because his observations are so clear, true and obvious - he really understood things - the details - those we believe “it is all about them”.
like his line about pringles - he believed the company started as a tennis balls brand, but on the day the first delivery came - they got potatoes instead - and Pringles is a laid back company - they just said - “what the hell, cut them up”. hilarious.
one of his magical liners was this ” An escalator can never break down. it can only become stairs”. amazing insight.
so this post is a tribute to the man - because early this morning on the way to a meeting in Azrieli Center in Tel Aviv - I used the escalators that have become stairs. was funny and sad. thanks Mitch.
two parts of his comedy central special:

whenever I see hoards of french jews walking around the beaches of tel aviv super-tanned, I remember Mich’s line of: “I thought of getting my teeth whitened but then I got a tan instead!”
it is sad a man like this is gone
My favorite one -
I opened a yogurt and underneath the lid it said “please try again” they were having a contest that I was unaware of. I thought maybe I had opened the yogurt wrong.Or maybe Yoplait was trying to inspire me. Come on Mitch, don’t give up! An inspirational message from your friends at Yoplait, fruit on the bottom, hope on top.
